What Passed, What Failed

I was browsing the online newspaper while eating my lunch today when I ran across an article that gave a brief synopsis of what the legislature passed/failed. I just had to laugh out loud about some of it... here are some of the items that were passed (yes PASSED):

  • Creates the crime of public display of a noose with the intent to intimidate. HB726. (I thought the display of any noose is intimidating!)

  • Prohibits a “sex offender” from wearing a mask, hood or disguise during holiday events and from distributing candy or other gifts on Halloween to persons under 18 years of age. SB143. (This was a no-brainer!)

  • Authorizes castration of persons convicted of a crime which classifies the convicted person as a “sex offender.” SB144. (OMG... what judge is going to mandate this as punishment?!? oh... I guess a female judge)

  • Prohibits wearing or possessing body armor on school property. HB1153. (When they stop kids from bringing guns, then we will worry about this one)

And my very biggest most favorite one...

  • Requests BESE to adopt a policy requiring local school boards to require students committing certain offenses to wear a hot pink jump suit. (Where was this law when I was teaching public school... I know a couple of little punks that would have looked just precious!)

Drug Interactions

I found a neat little function on the Internet to plug all of your medications into (both prescription and OTC) to see if there could be any dangerous interactions. It's at Drug.com They also have a pill identifying function to help you figure out what a certain pill is called by the shape, color, and markings on it. If you take any medications (including vitamins), you should check this website out. If it is as reliable as it seems, then it could eliminate the need to wait in line to talk to the pharmacist anytime you are given a prescription!

Just Couldn't Resist...

While shopping with Dylan at ToysRUs yesterday, we ended up in the video game section, of course. While Dylan was checking out KungFu Panda for the Wii, I got a chance to try out guitar hero for XBox 360. I was hooked! It was a blast to rock out while trying to "play along" with the music. Well the bundle at ToysRUs was quite costly... over $100 bucks! I checked out Ebay just out of curiosity. I found the wireless MINT GUITAR HERO III BUNDLE XBOX 360 LEGENDS of ROCK WIRELESS . The bidding started at only 20bucks, so I had to join in the action. I ended up winning the auction for $40. Now I can't wait for delivery... so much for laundry and chores... I'll be glued to the game for a while!

Dylan's Birthday Party

We had a wonderful time celebrating Dylan's birthday party today at the Laser Tag of Baton Rouge. Only 3 friends were able to come, but it ended up being a great thing because the dads and I were able to join in on the laser tag fun! Here are a few photos from today's celebration...

Father's Day 2008

An excellent Father's Day, indeed! I had surprisingly been able to order the nerf bars (chrome running boards/bars) for WD's truck without him knowing. They came in Saturday afternoon... just in time for me to hide them in the garage. Dylan choose to buy WD a stainless steel ice chest on wheels for the back patio. Erin picked a set of earphones called Skull Candy for WD. He loved the gifts! It was a great way to surprise him on his special day. I was able to sneak a couple of pictures of WD & Dylan installing the nerf bars on his truck that morning.

More Movies...

While the kids are out of town, WD and I have been able to see another movie! I'm trying to get in as much entertainment as possible because after this week, I'll be consumed with a research class that began Monday and will last until August. The movie we saw this time was much better than the Zohan one! "What Happens in Vegas" was a cute movie about a couple of crazy people having a little too much to drink, end up married (unknowingly), then end up hitting a jackpot on a slot machine. They take it to court, but instead of a divorce and splitting the money, the judge orders 6 months of "hard marriage". It was cute... not the greatest movie, but nice for a little no-brainer entertainment. I think I had more fun checking out the movie props in the theater's lobby! Check out these photos I snapped with my phone...

Thumbs Down for Zohan Movie

Ok... I'm known for despising slap-stick, vulgar, collegiate, no-brainer comedies. I have tried and tried to "get" them, but I think I am finally giving up. From "40 Year Old Virgin" to "Knocked Up" to "Talladego Nights" to "Wedding Crashers" to "Mr. Woodcock"... I have attempted to be a good sport with an open mind and watch these senseless (and most of the time uncomfortably perverted) movies. I have decided that I have watched the last one.

WD and I planned a fun Saturday night out without the kids. We jetted over to Texas Roadhouse for a couple of steaks, then headed to the movies. I suggested the new Adam Sandler movie "You Don't Mess with the Zohan". I had seen the previews and knew that it would be one that WD would be thrilled to see. I was giving this comedy thing another shot. The whole movie ended up being about his outrageously huge cock and how he used it like superhuman powers. Give me a break... the funniest thing about this movie were the plugs for Mariah Carey. The racism was rampant, too. In no other realm would society stand for the out right racist remarks and slurs about foreigners. Oh well... I least I can say I tried... again. WD will just have to rent them or plan a Guys-Night-Out to see them.

Outback Makes Me Smile :-)

I just love eating at the Outback... their bloomin' onion, their delicious house salad (with my favorite and only type of honey-mustard dressing I eat), the Alice Springs chicken, the new sweet potato smash... mmmm I'm starting to get hungry now. Not only does their food make me happy but they also have these really cute little coasters that are rather entertaining too... while waiting for my Wallaby Darn, I like to thumb through the drink coasters set in a stack on the table. Some are hilarious, some are goofy, some are just ads, but they all make me smile. I've even started a collection of these, hanging them in my office! You have to check them all out at Outback's website, but I think my favorite three are:

"...and then I accidentally hit Reply All."

"I'm honest about my weight, but I've started lying about my height."

"2 much txting mks u 1 bad splr."
