Waffles for Supper

With all of the traveling WD's been doing, he's out of town many nights. Me and the kiddos enjoy a very simple supper while he's away. Tonight we had waffles! I just whip up some waffle batter made from Bisquick, eggs, and milk, then slowly pour it over the hot sizzling waffle iron... I close it up and wait as the steam wafts out from around the edges making the waffles slightly crisp and golden brown. Gently pull the waffle off of the iron onto a plate where we lather marjarine into the squared cake. Pour on a modest amount of sticky sweet Aunt Jemima's syrup. We love breakfast for supper. Other nights we've had cereal. Even other nights we've had eggs and toast. Yummy, yummy, yummy!

Scrapfest, AGAIN!

We made it... through the drippy weather... to Mandeville today! It's Shontel, Gina, Sydney, and me. We are having a blast. I haven't done much cropping yet, but I'm getting organized, done a little shopping, and eaten lots of junk food. Here's a photo of all my scrapping junk... don't worry WD, it's my collection since I started scrapbooking in 2002!

Slow-Down During Morning Commute

As I was traveling down I-10 west towards downtown, yesterday morning, the traffic seemed to come to an unusually slow pace as I approached the 10-12 merge. I had noticed something in the sky a few miles back, but couldn't see anything now. Finally it appeared in front of me... a huge hot air balloon appeared to be dropping down onto the eastbound lane! I feared it would crash into the traffic, but suddenly it just stopped and hovered. The traffic began to slow even more as people were rubber-necking... I guess I'm guilty, too, especially since I got my Blackberry out and snapped this photo!

Beautiful Girl (if I do say so myself!)

Here are a few shots from Erin's photo shoot downtown. Her company dance owner wanted to get photos made for her studio, Jete Dance Company. Above are some of the candids I snapped while waiting on the professional photographer.

Joy Over the Little Things in Life

It's amazing how the little things in life can give such joy. The sound of this child can turn your "down" day into a "happy" day! Thanks to my in-laws for sharing this video through a "forward email".

Valentine Surprises

Erin and Dylan were so excited to receive their annual Valentine gift... a cute little pair of pajamas. Of course they made it very clear that they DID NOT want a Whitman's Sampler box of candy (their Dad's favorite). So I purchased a couple of really cute candy bouquet's from one of my coworker/friends, Teviron. She made personalized candy bouquets... one for my girl, Erin and one for little man, Dylan. They were thrilled and were very thankful that I didn't bring home the "box of chocolates with the gooey centers".

Valentine Day Prayer

At the news of Amy Stockstill's death, I was saddened. Not for her, but for her very young husband, Joel. I've never met this young couple (3 years married with no children), but through friends who attend Bethany, I heard what a great young woman Amy was. I had not known Joel and Amy's life story, but from what I've heard it was one of love and of deep family relations. On this Valentine Day, my prayers are with Joel who is without his "Dovie" on this special day of love.

Great Friends

I have recently really enjoyed some great times with friends and family recently! A couple of weeks ago, I experienced the Wine Loft with some of my coworkers/friends... very nice place and very good time! I also was invited to a friend's lakehouse to scrapbook (2 weekends in a row)! Karen was such a great hostess... she opened up the lakehouse to all of us girls and even provided tons of delicious treats/food. I slept comfy in the bunkbed room with the nice toasty heater, and enjoyed the smell of the nice clean woods. Not to mention the great people I've met and some I've gotten to know even better... Heather, Annette, Lisa, Denise, and Kristy. Hanging out with Connie is always a pleasure. Of course the girls night out with Brooklyn, Brandi, Jamie, Jamie's Mom, and Mom Barbara. The out-of-this-world surprise birthday party where I got to see tons of family and friends including neighbor friends Stacy and Jen. What a great time where special memories were made. WD and I have even enjoyed each others company in the last week or so... maybe it's actually helping us to like each other even more by hanging out with other people too! I am truly blessed to be surrounded with such special friends and family!

Girls Night Out

I just got home from a really nice evening with the "girls". This is somewhat of a tradition my mother-in-law and sisters-in-law started. We all go to a chick flick (we saw "Mad Money" tonight) and go out to eat (we went to Kona Grill tonight). It's a great time to connect and just be girls. Tonight was interesting because I typically order things at restaurants that I am familiar with but tonight I tried a couple of types of soup, macadamia nut chicken, and even sushi.
Very enjoyable experiencing something different! To top the night off, we strolled through Barnes and Noble at Perkins Rowe where I found a hard to find book for Erin, a couple of little paperbacks for Dylan, and the new John Grisham book (which my mother-in-law bought that I will borrow... it's great having similar tastes!). What a great evening!

The Moment of Truth

I am loving this show! I am indeed a game show fan, but this is intense... The Moment of Truth. Fox has done it again... we gear up for American Idol which is followed by this little gem of a "game". It is very exciting to watch, but there is no way I could see myself or anyone I love being put under the stress of it all. The really great thing about the show is that it really makes me realize that no one is perfect. We all have our flaws no matter how great or small... we are all part of the human race. I only wish they would do a follow up show of how the family and friends responded to the information that was "discovered" about the person in the hot seat.

Babysitting Business for Erin

Well Erin may finally be approaching the age where she can actually take on real babysitting jobs. She asked me to help her to create a flier that she could distribute around the neighborhood. It has been so long since I took babysitting jobs that I had a hard time helping her. While in Target today, I ran across the perfect resource. It was called the Babysitter's Business Kit, and it fit the bill. This great little kit provided business cards, tips, and a handbook with great info. I hope Erin has as much fun learning how to be a great babysitter as I did when I was in middle school!

New Phone

It's really fun having a family that loves gadgets and techie stuff. WD and I headed out to the ATandT store today to buy upgraded phones and service. After dealing with Verizon for 2 years, we were so glad to have new options now. ATandT doesn't have near the restrictions Verizon does... can change plans, add lines, upgrade phones, etc without extending contracts. I loved my Blackberry (can't live without it), so I didn't want to give it up. WD easily convinced me that the newer Blackberry would work just as well, not to mention they had a red one! It's so really fun... I even was able to download a song with this new Blackberry whereas before I simply had the Blackberry tone. The next time you hear "Low", it may just be my phone... not very professional, but lots of fun to jam to!

Gearing Up for Scrapfest Again

My dear friend, Shontel, called me today. I am going to room with her and a few of her friends for this Feb's Scrapfest in Mandeville. In the past, I've seen Shon and her buddies, but was always trying to organize my stuff to be with another group from Baton Rouge (great group of women, too... it's always so hard to decide who to hang out with). This time will be different! I am getting my photos printed and pulling supplies together so that I will be prepared. I guess I should set my goal to be about 10 double page layouts, but it will all depend on how much gabbing and giggling we get done, too!
