Little Weekend Trip

While WD is working tirelessly in Pensacola for 3 weeks straight, Erin, Dylan, & I been trudging along through the typical, run-of-the mill activities of life. So we decided to trek off to Pensacola this past weekend to see WD. We spent the weekend exploring downtown Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, & Pensacola Beach. It was all very beautiful. The highlight of the weekend was jet skiing in the ocean. The water was very choppy which made the sport even more exciting. We enjoyed it with almost no accidents... WD hit a wave while riding Dylan behind him, and Dylan went flying off. I was concerned for only a moment, when I realized Dylan was laughing his head off and was hanging on to the side of WD's life vest. Erin & I took turns driving the other jet ski. We also ate crabs by the beach, played putt-putt, and explored beaches and sand dunes that were completely isolated (AKA: The End of the Earth).

We Survived the 2008 Hurricanes

Gustav blew through and we got water in the house, cracked privacy fence, trees blown sideways, broken ice machine, and the worst was no electricity for a week. We trekked over to Gulfport, MS in search of a generator, window A/C unit, and gasoline (everywhere was sold out here). After blocking off the downstairs area, we all lived in the living/kitchen area downstairs. It was yucky... everyone sleeping in the living room in makeshift beds. The kids missed a week of school and were stir crazy! I ended up hooking the washing machine to the generator to clean a few clothes then hung them on the back porch. After it was all said and done with Gustav, then Hurricane Ike arrived. The only thing we got from Ike was widespread panic in the area because everybody was so freaked out because of Gustav, and another day off of school. I can tell you now, I won't ever take electricity and my comfy bedroom for granted! Check out the photos... Dylan says he didn't want to go back to his "ex-bedroom" because he loved his "back-up bedroom" so much downstairs hidden behind my recliner.

Drinking, Consumption, Whatever You Want To Call It...

I have led a relatively sheltered life, I know. I have never experimented with drugs and barely with alcohol. Since becoming an adult, I have decided to drink alcohol on an occasional basis depending on the social setting and such. Typical amount I consume is one to two drinks a week... a far cry from dependent, I know. All this said, I have searched and searched for what is an acceptable amount of alcohol one should allow his/herself to consume. I hear extemes from people I love and trust... some say it's wrong to have any, others of them live a total free-for-all in terms of alcohol consumption. Morally, I turn to the Bible to see what it says about consuming alcohol... in the book of John, Jesus gives compliments at a wedding where the best wine was saved for the end of the wedding; in 1 Timothy wine is given in place of water medicinally; there are many more examples of where folks in the Bible are partaking in alcoholic beverage (specifically wine). On the flip side, the Bible clearly speaks out against drunkenness. So my moral take on it is, it's okay to drink alcohol in moderation, but not in excess to cause drunkenness. Hence brings about the question: what's too much? is that the same for everyone? Moral dilemmas aside (because we can argue that facet for years), what is an acceptable amount of alcohol consumption in terms of healthy living? I have found a couple of websites that give some insight:

LA State Police Website
The NIAAA Site (especially questions 10, 13, & 17)

but, I want to poll anyone who is willing to share their views/opinions... just leave a comment here.

What was the Hit Song the Day you were Born?

Check it out here: Hit Song Look Up
When you get to the site, click on the month you were born, then the day, then the year. It's great to see the way music has changed over the years... I'm going to have to look the song up that was number one the day I was born, because I have no idea what song is "Show & Tell" by Al Wilson... maybe if I heard it, I would recognize it.
